Betty Ruth Hankins Pounders, 84 of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Trinity Healthcare, Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.  A funeral service will be Sunday, February 11, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating.  Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Pounders was born May 29, 1933, in Lamar County AL to the late Claude Loudellion and Dovie Lee Pearson Hankins the youngest of 10 children. She married E.G. Pounders, Jr at the age of 16 and together they had 3 children.  She graduated S.D. Lee High School, Columbus, MS.  Mrs. Pounders was very active in her husband’s ministry being a gracious pastor’s wife in many churches throughout Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Indiana.  She also worked in the banking industry for many years and in 1997, Mrs. Pounders along with her husband and son founded Lowndes Funeral Home and retired in 2003.  She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, MS and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pounders is preceded in death by her husband – Bro. E.G. Pounders, Jr.; daughter – Deborah Gail Pounders Weathers; sisters – Linnie Ray Malone and Nell Thompson; brothers – C.L. Hankins, Cecil Hankins, Hershel Hankins, Loyce Hankins, A.J. Hankins and James Earl Hankins.

Mrs. Pounders is survived by her daughter – Karen (Frank) Robbins, Thermopolis, WY; son – Tim (Dawn) Pounders, Columbus, MS; grandchildren – Amber (Tommy) Willis, Carlton (Aimee) Weathers, Jordan (Anna) Weathers, Holli (Josh) Longwell, Hank (Sherri) Robbins, Dustin (Erin) Pounders, Luke (Leah) Pounders and Caleb (Karen) Pounders; great-grandchildren – Bobby Harden, Hannah Grace Weathers, Noah Weathers, Lily Ruth Weathers, Hope Weathers, Lottie Weathers, Ada Weathers, Harper Weathers, Jase Longwell, McCoy Longwell, Jhett Longwell, Mesa Longwell,  Fort Robbins, Mia Koedi Robbins, Elisa Ruth Pounders, John Davis Pounders, Libby Pounders, Lucas Pounders, Spencer Pounders; Son-in-law – Roy Weathers; sister – Dorothy Lee; brother-in-law – James Thompson; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Pallbearers will be Carlton Weathers, Jordan Weathers, Dustin Pounders, Luke Pounders, Caleb Pounders and Hank Robbins.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Sheila Guyton, Willie Hairston, Cassie Neal and the staff of Trinity Healthcare, Staff of Lowndes Funeral Home, Traci Ruth, Ray Crane, J.B. Cox, Ralph Youngblood, Harold Youngblood, Dick Rollins, Bob Crigler, Bob Brandon and Bobby Ward.
