David Cushman Kelleher, 67, of McComb, MS, passed away on September 2, 2017 at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 5pm until 8pm and will continue at 10am Wednesday, September 6, until services at 11am. The visitation and funeral will be held at Hartman-Jones Funeral Home in McComb. Dr. David Millican and Rev. Bob Lynch will officiate. Graveside service to follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
Dave was born on March 6, 1950 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was the son of Dr. George T. Kelleher and Betty Jeanne Quin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Clayton W. Quin, and a niece, Debbie Datson Belile.
He is survived by one son (from his marriage to Cyndy Piasecki VanAutreve), Trevour C. Kelleher and wife, Carrie, of Singapore; two daughters (from his marriage to Susan Myers Duncan), Lesley Sterling and husband, Munch, of Mccomb, MS and Dr. Marilyn Hopkins and husband, Dex, of Lexington, KY; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Kelleher and wife, Patti, of McKinney, TX, and William Kelleher of Battle Creek, MI; two sisters, Susie Jaskolski and husband, Ken, of Virginia Beach, VA, and sister, Elizabeth Kelleher of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren Annabelle and Nicholas Kelleher, and Leah, Cole, and Lainey Sterling; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Meghann Conner; and long-time friend, Bill Goodwin.
Dave ran track at Battle Creek High School, attended Kalamazoo College, and graduated from Western Michigan University with a business degree. He then traveled the world as an educator employed by the U.S. Navy. He was an avid reader and writer throughout his life. After a number of years managing restaurants, Dave obtained his certification in Mortuary Science and moved to McComb, MS.
He owned and operated Hartman Funeral Home of McComb for many years. He was very active in the local business community. He was involved in McComb Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was named Rotarian of the year and also served a term as president. One of his proudest accomplishments was the rebuilding of the McComb Public Library, in which he played an instrumental role. Dave was a lifelong baseball fanatic and realized his goal of visiting all of the major league stadiums. He also enjoyed all types of music, especially the piano, and later in life, obtained a music degree. His greatest joy in life was learning and sharing that enthusiasm for learning with his children and grandchildren. Most recently, he retired to New Orleans, LA.
Pallbearers will be Bobby “Governor” McDaniel, Wesley “Munch” Sterling, Dex Hopkins, Paul Gullotta, Pete Ollar, Glynn Krouse, Woody Parnell, and Steve Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be the Thursday Morning Prayer Group and the McComb Rotary Club.
Found among his personal possessions were his favorite Bible verses: John 20:28-31 and Corinthians I 1:10.
